City Centre Playground: Cook and Phillip Park

Cook and Phillip Park, Sydney

Client

ASPECT Studios and City of Sydney

About

The new City Centre Playground will be built in Cook + Philip Park, near William Street by the City of Sydney and features a nature play area, treehouse play structures, climbing ropes, sandpits, swings and slides.

The design also includes raised timber boardwalks, stepping stones and balancing trails, a planted dry creek bed, a picnic lawn and space for storytelling and performances.

Our role

We facilitated a design session with local Aboriginal community members, the ASPECT design team and City of Sydney representatives to ensure the Indigenous narrative was appropriately incorporated into the park’s design. Rapid prototyping was created from this and became a key tool for the empathy research phase of the project.

Our role also includes working with Aboriginal Artist Jordan Ardler to create interpretive motifs, animal tracking and entry portals that will be located on the site.
